I Won't Let You Get Away From Me Again [ACTIVE/CLOSED]

Characters: Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura
Content: Naruto rushes to find Sakura, after noticing people disappearing into thin air
Location: 225 West 57th Street
Time of day: Mid-day
Warnings: None?

Naruto tore through the streets of Manhattan to get to where Sakura was residing. He hadn't been there very long, but long enough to know his way to her place, at least. People were disappearing...he'd seen it. A few people had been walking down the street, when they just faded into nothingness before his very eyes. And hearing people sobbing and screaming all throughout the city, they must have been going on everywhere. And so Naruto's immediate first thought was, "FIND SAKURA."

It was with that urgency that he burst into the place she was staying at, heading inside, looking around. "Sakura-chan!" he yelled, loudly, in the lobby of the building, hoping that she heard him, and wasn't already gone. He didn't know what he would do if she was.

Sakura had been grabbing her own things to go search for him and she had had a terrible moment of panic earlier when she realized he could already be gone. She was on the stairs when she heard her name being called. Naruto. Relief flooded her and she raced down the stairs and into the lobby.

"Naruto?!"

He ran over to her, hugging her immediately out of reflex. "Sakura-chan," he said, his voice quieter. "I was worried that you were gone already..." He looked at her, seeing the panic in her eyes. "Don't worry, I'm still here...I wonder if anything has happened to Sasuke."

After their last encounter...Naruto wasn't so sure that it wasn't best for Sasuke to just disappear as well. He just wanted to be able to protect Sakura, even if it was from Sasuke.

Sakura blinked and gave him a hug back. He was safe. For now. She stiffened a little at the mention of Sasuke and sighed, "...I'm here. I-I don't know. Even if I posted, he probably wouldn't respond." She shifted and looked at him, "What do we do? Is there anything we can do?"

It was horrible to feel so helpless. She usually had some plan.

He shrugged. "I don't know what we can do. I guess...well, our only hope is to try to get out of the city. But people have tried from what I've been told...and it didn't work." He frowned. He was still hugging her, as if he could by himself keep her from disappearing.

"What do you want to do?"

Sakura wilted a little. No plan. Neither of them had a real plan. But he'd be upset if she was upset. Sakura lifted her head and smiled.

"Let's try our luck?" She put a hand on his shoulder and pulled back a bit, "We can walk on water a little of the way but not all of it...I don't have as much chakra anymore."

"That's the best plan," he said. When she mentioned how much chakra she didn't have, he just grinned. "Don't worry, Sakura-chan - I can carry you if I need to. I'm limited like you, but I still have way more chakra than I'll need to just get across that."

Her hand on his shoulder comforted him, though. He had a strange feeling that something was going to go horribly wrong.

Sakura snorted a little. Of course he did. He was a veritable powerhouse. She smiled and stepped back and looked toward the door.

"I guess we should go. This way is faster." She took his hand and started walking toward the sea. She was very tempted to keep hold of his hand. He might disappear any second. And there was no use running there if she needed chakra to walk across.

He nodded, feeling her take his hand, and walked with her, as they were close to the water that seemed to lead to another patch of land, hopefully out of the reach of the monsters, or whatever was making people disappear.

"I have a bad feeling about this," he said, as they started to move, his head almost feeling a little light. He figured it was just the situation making him like that, so he ignored it.

Sakura looked at him nervously, "...So do I." She stopped and looked around the city, "...Assets. How stupid. What on earth can they hope to gain from this?"

"Do you think we'll get home Naruto?"

Naruto grinned; he wasn't going to let his worry show on his face to her. "I'm sure of it," he said. "We'll get home, and Sasuke will get his ass home, and then we'll drag him back to Konoha by his hair if we have to."

He saw the path down to the water, and he started to walk a little faster, pulling her along with him. "Look, Sakura-chan, we're almost to the water! We can just get there and then we can get aw-"

All of a sudden, he was cut off in mid-sentence, as he completely vanished, his hand disappearing from within Sakura's, no longer pulling her along as he was just gone.

Sakura smiled. Always the optimist.

"And then we just have to..." She stood there, silently. He was gone. He had just vanished and no jutsu to save him. She'd always had nightmares Naruto would die and she would try and try to help him only to have her jutsu not be enough. But this was worse. Much worse.

"N-Naruto?" She put a hand through the space he had been in. Her hand still felt warm. She let it drop and breathed deeply, ignoring the hitch in her breath as she started to cry.

"We'll get home...Right?" She couldn't breath, run, and cry at the same time but she was going to try. She ran for the water, splashing in the shallows. Her foot landed solidly on the water's surface and she ran as fast as she could, but a hundred feet offshore, she just vanished and the water slid back into place, calm as it had been before, like she had never existed.
